The appeal by Redrow to build 65 houses at the back of Compton Way took place at Swanspool, Wellingborough on the 12th-13th June.

Many members of the public attended the appeal and made their objections heard.

The evidence was given on the impact on the following:

  • The effect on Earls Barton schools
  • Traffic congestion in Station Road and The Square.
  • Parking along Station Road and The Square.
  • The development of Earls Barton Neigboroughood Plan.
  • The lack of amenities in Earls Barton for the present population and the impact additional people would have on these amenities.

A petition, signed by nearly 200 people, was presented to the inspector stating that:

We the undersigned wish to express our objection     to the proposed housing development at the rear of 1 to 73 Compton Way by     Redrow Homes South Midlands. The people of Earls Barton are developing a     Neighbourhood Plan which will determine the number of new houses that this     community wants and were they should be built This appeal by Redrow is a)     premature b) prejudicial to the Neighbourhood plan that is being developed     by this community. We urge the appeal to be rejected.”

Borough Councillors George Blackwell, Peter Morrall and Peter Wright and, Rosie Smart, Clerk to the Parish Council, all spoke and called for the appeal to be refused.

The results of the appeal will be known in a few weeks.
